Amanda Keffer
Hi, I’m Amanda Keffer, PMHNP, DNP. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I’ve seen firsthand the profound pain and isolation that can come with mental health challenges. Whether you’re navigating depression, anxiety, or a deep sense of hopelessness, I understand how overwhelming and exhausting these emotions can be. Many of my clients have fought long battles with mood disorders, including treatment resistant depression, and can feel like they’re running out of options. However, you are not alone, and help is available.
I specialize in working with individuals aged 14 and older, focusing on treatment resistant depression and mood disorders, with additional expertise in interventional psychiatry. My background also includes caring for older adults, giving me a broad perspective on mental health across the lifespan. I understand how easy it can be to feel as though your condition is unchangeable or that previous treatments haven’t been enough. My goal is to truly understand your unique experiences and provide the hope and support needed to work toward a brighter future.
In my practice, I offer a compassionate and comprehensive approach to psychiatric care. I believe that mental health is multifaceted and cannot be fully addressed with a single modality. While medication and therapy are essential tools, I also emphasize lifestyle changes, holistic supplements, self-care, and the mind-body connection as integral parts of healing.
I recognize that everyone’s experience with mental health is unique, and I tailor my approach to meet the specific needs of each person I work with. Whether through medication management, psychotherapeutic intervention, or alternative therapies, I strive to provide a well-rounded and personalized treatment plan. Above all, my goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can be heard and understood. I aim to educate and empower you with knowledge about your treatment options, helping you feel in control of your mental health journey. It’s my belief that healing is a partnership, and I work collaboratively with my clients to achieve meaningful progress.
Education and Experience
I received a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry from California University of Pennsylvania prior to my Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013. I then went on to earn my master’s and doctoral degrees, specializing in Psychiatric Mental Health from Robert Morris University. I completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2020 with a project exploring the effect of environmental exposures on mental health. My education and clinical training have equipped me with the skills to provide evidence-based, innovative, and holistic care options to those in need.
Hobbies and Interests
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family, searching for unique treasures—rocks, gems, antique glassware, or seashells and shark teeth when traveling. I also enjoy spending time with beloved pets or doing yoga outside on a nice day. These activities help me recharge and stay grounded, which allows me to bring my best self to my work.
