January Sholly
OCD Therapist Near Me
Hi there, I’m January! I’m a Licensed Social Worker who specializes in working with individuals struggling with OCD, anxiety, and depression. I understand how overwhelming it can feel to be stuck in cycles of intrusive thoughts, constant worry, or emotional exhaustion. I also know how frustrating it is when those experiences are hard to explain to others. Sometimes, people just don’t understand the intrusive thoughts that pop into our heads and are so persistent that we can’t shake them. I want to work with you to learn how to manage the intense feelings these thoughts might bring, whether they’re about harm, relationships, contamination, or any other theme. I also work with couples experiencing hurdles in their relationships.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and practical. I work to help clients better understand what’s happening in their minds, build effective coping tools and communication strategies, and move toward a life that feels more manageable and meaningful. I do this through various therapy types, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based treatment. At the root of all the modalities I use is the fact that you are always in charge. We will collaborate to ensure you are getting the most out of our time together, and we can always adapt treatment to best fit your needs.
You don’t have to go through this alone, and you don’t have to have everything figured out before coming to my office. Starting your therapy journey can be overwhelming, whether you are completely new to counseling or looking to get back into it after some time away. Let’s work together to create a safe, trusting, and honest collaborative relationship. I believe the most important part of the therapeutic relationship is creating an environment in which you feel good. In my practice and personal life, I value honesty, adaptability, kindness, and empathy. I truly believe these values are the keys to growth, healing, and long-term recovery.
Education and Experience
I received my Master’s of Social Work degree from the University of Pittsburgh. During my time at Pitt, I was a Behavioral Health Scholar and received a certificate in mental health. I also interned under licensed professionals in an intensive outpatient program where I learned to effectively treat OCD. If you are looking for an OCD therapist near me in the Pittsburgh area, I have been continuing to treat OCD across a wide age range since graduation, while also developing skills to treat depression and anxiety, as well as to help couples communicate effectively with each other.
Hobbies & Interests
My hobbies include baking, reading, crocheting, sewing, hiking, and trying every coffee shop in Pittsburgh (I always have a good recommendation). During my time off, I can usually be found curled up with my two cats, a cup of coffee, and a good book (usually thrillers or romance), or exploring what nature has to offer across Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, either by camping at music festivals or going on hikes.
