Donald Pickerine is a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania. He has been working in the mental health field in the Pittsburgh area as a therapist and psychologist for over 35 years. His theoretical orientation is family systems which focuses on family relationship issues. Family systems theory informs his work as a psychologist with adults, couples, parents, children, and families.
Donald’s goal in treatment is to help the individuals he works with become less reactive emotionally to others and to help individuals think more clearly about how their behavior affects others. He considers the individual as part of the family emotional unit and uses systems thinking to help the individual navigate the complex family interactions.
Donald also uses behavioral therapy when working with parents and children. He also completes psychological evaluations with children and adolescents regarding the need for treatment.
Donald works with individuals with symptoms of depression, anxiety, parenting difficulties, and with relationship conflicts. Donald also has experience working with men’s issues and with chronic and persistent mental health problems.
Education & Experience
Donald graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Master’s Degree, and in 1991 became a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania. He has also received training through the Western Pennsylvania Family Center. Donald has worked in private practice, in community mental health, and in rehabilitation settings in the Pittsburgh area. He has supervised therapists and managed clinical outpatient units. He has also taught college level psychology courses.
Donald has had training in the treatment of trauma, child abuse, couples and marital problems, depression, anxiety, ADHD, parenting, drug and alcohol problems, psychosis, mood disorders, grief and loss, intellectual disability, and autism. He has had training in cognitive-behavioral therapy, short term therapy, psychological testing, and the need for psychotropic medication
In his personal time, Donald enjoys playing tennis, taking his two Labrador retrievers for walks, working on cars, and spending time with his family and friends.
