Kali Alrutz
Kali Alrutz MPH, RD, LDN is a Registered Dietitian who is passionate about aiding her clients in their health and wellness journey. She offers nutrition counseling via online therapy or in person at the South Hills Counseling location.
Kali’s interest in nutrition began when she was in high school competing in sports. At that time, she realized the one important thing about nutrition related to performance: food is fuel. And not only fuel for performance, but fuel for your mind and spirit. Kali has a background in nutrition counseling and medical nutrition therapy and offers a personalized approach to guiding her clients. She utilizes motivational interviewing techniques, a client-centered counseling style, aimed at focusing on behavior change by helping her clients to explore and resolve irresolution.
Kali’s training includes a wide variety of food and nutrition-related concerns, working with adolescents and adults alike, and specializes in the following areas:
- Weight management
- Thyroid health
- Digestive health, including specific dietary needs (gluten free, vegetarian/vegan, food sensitivities)
- Metabolic syndrome, including high blood pressure and abnormal cholesterol levels
- Pre-diabetes
- Gestational diabetes
- Personalized menu planning
Kali is a former wellness counselor and has also taught cooking classes, as well as many group-educational classes related to pre-diabetes, diabetes, and cardiac rehabilitation. She is passionate about incorporating physical activity and nutrition to improve overall health and well-being.
Kali attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics. She received her master’s degree in public health from West Virginia University, where she graduated with a focus in public health policy, management, and leadership. This allowed her to take her nutrition background and apply it to public health principles related to overall population health.
Kali lives in Canonsburg with her husband and their two corgis. She enjoys cooking, exercising, reading, and traveling to visit friends and family in cities around the US.
