Melanie McConnell, MS-IMH, LPC
Melanie McConnell is a licensed professional counselor with over two decades combined experience in the field of medical, education, coaching, consulting and counseling. She is solution-focused counselor providing a mindfulness-based approach infusing positive psychology resources to support clients with stress management, anxiety, relationships, life transitions and adjustments.
Melanie is a graduate of both Carlow and LaRoche Colleges and completed a Master of Science in Infant Mental Health Counseling Psychology from Chatham University. She finds her specialization in children and teen mental health supports her understanding of adult attachments and relationships across the life span including marriages, partnerships, co-parenting, and child/ teen therapy.
She has experience with adolescents, adults and families at The Watson Institute, UPMC Neonatal Developmental Follow-Up Clinic supporting parents and infants, Highmark Caring Place for grieving children, community outpatient care, the non-profit sector and in private practice. Melanie is also a former director of a counseling practice where as a clinician she has assisted individuals and couples with life transitions, stress management and career and business start-up support with coaching & solution-focused programs.
Melanie’s experiences extend beyond the clinical arena as she has provided services as an executive leadership coach for fortune 500 company employees using positive psychology as a framework to promote clients and their successes. She offers experience as faculty for over a decade teaching post-secondary education at the college level on topics of medical & social sciences, positive psychology and the benefits of mindfulness. She is a yoga teacher 200- hour level with over a decade studying energy medicine and holistic modalities.
She currently serves as a consultant for non-profit organizations developing and delivering workshops and programs, providing counseling and outreach services to affiliated businesses.
Melanie resides in Pittsburgh in a log cabin she and her husband built together. She enjoys taking care of her home and relaxing in her “nest”. In addition to both she and her husband’s careers, Melanie supports her husband as a professional musician as he performs locally and up and down the East Coast. Melanie enjoys walking trails, yoga, spending time with family.
Melanie’s work is about expansion, optimism and growth. She is passionate about people, pets and life and enjoys empowering people to show up as their best self. She understands the influence that habits, patterns and beliefs have as barriers to success and knows how to motivate, encourage and align with people to break their cycle and create an incredible life.
Melanie was called to become a counselor years ago when she was seeking a way to integrate her study and love of holistic and alternative medicine while teaching yoga to effectively support people in a way that offers tangible skills and techniques to heal. She found that working as a therapist she could infuse these concepts and make a greater impact.
Melanie welcomes clients with her strength-based approach, offering an abundance of empathy and a non-judgmental environment to heal, learn and grow.
