Stephanie Brown is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who will be offering in-person therapy in our South Hills Canonsburg location as well as online therapy. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive behavioral therapy, and supportive therapy are among the interventions Stephanie utilizes as a mental health therapist.
In addition, Stephanie believes strongly that each individual has a story and background, and recognizes the importance in incorporating them into their therapy. Although she already possesses a dense collective of therapeutic skills and ideas, Stephanie acknowledges that continuous study and growth within the field is vital to prolonged effectiveness for clients. Therefore, she is always proactive in learning new approaches and techniques to continue to provide optimal support.
Education & Experience
The University of Pittsburgh is where Stephanie first honed her skills in various arenas of mental health. During her tenure at Pitt, Stephanie earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work degree (with a concentration in mental health) and Master of Arts in Social Work degree, the latter of which was part of the school’s Advanced Standing program. In addition to these accomplishments, she also earned a certificate in mental health while completing her studies.
Stephanie owns a wealth of experience across a plethora of areas within mental health, showcasing her comfort in serving a wide variety of populations. The ability to connect with with individuals of all backgrounds is vital to her practice. She has worked with the homeless population, providing case management services to the street homeless and individuals who were at risk of eviction. In addition, Stephanie has provided supportive therapy to individuals in assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, and guided them through various obstacles at that level of care. Individuals who have been diagnosed with a severe persistent mental illness (SPMI) have also been under Stephanie’s watch, as have those in need of home therapy as she served as a member of an Assertive Community Treatment Team. Finally, she also has several years of inpatient mental health experience while working on a step down unit with individuals who need longer inpatient stabilization and support.
Stephanie serves as the Clinical Supervisor at our South Hills location, where she oversees the pre-licensed clinicians and counseling interns at the Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh.
Hobbies & Interests
Stephanie is originally from New Jersey, and now resides in Pittsburgh with her husband, two children and dog, Gus (technically a third child). She spends the bulk of her free time with her friends and family, discovering new adventures for them to experience together.
Therapy can be a very vulnerable experience, and all those seeking therapy should be commended for recognizing the need for help. Stephanie looks to provide this commendation in the form of therapy that allows clients to recognize that in the midst of vulnerability lie strengths. These strengths are to be the foundation built upon to allow for better days ahead.
