Hannah Whitman
Mental Health Counselor
Hannah Whitman, LPC NCC is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania and a board-certified counselor who practices at the Monroeville location of the Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh. As a mental health counselor, Hannah knows that it can be very intimidating to approach therapy, and sometimes a person is not sure what they want to change. Past resentments, anxiety, and lack of fulfillment all can lead to feelings of discouragement and difficulty enjoying the things a person hopes to in life.
It is a difficult task to share our concerns, fears, and vulnerabilities with another, and with that challenge in mind, Hannah hopes to give her clients a feeling of comfort, welcome, and most importantly-acceptance. Starting with this readiness for change, Hannah’s goal is to meet a client at their level of comfort. Hannah is eager to help clients resolve a variety of mental health issues such as stress, depression, bipolar disorder, family and marriage issues and counseling for children and teens.
Hannah takes a client-centered approach with her clients by holding a space for the person to be heard, experience their feelings and feel understood and recognized. She employs reality therapy, solution focused approaches, and incorporates mindfulness and gestalt therapy. She makes her best effort to adapt to the client and take the approach they are most comfortable with.
Her goal is to help her clients develop insight and identify what changes or adjustments they would like to make, and empower them to do so with support and honesty. She uses patience and acceptance to foster the therapeutic relationship so a person is comfortable in pursuing their own growth and development. One of the most important elements to a person’s success is the relationship between client and therapist. It is essential for the client to be an equal in the therapeutic relationship and allowed the ability to take an active direction in their own care; which allows them a space of their own, for change and growth. Her role is to support the individual and follow a person’s exploration of their experiences and meaning; so, they can cultivate a healthier and more balanced self.
