Bethany Wombacker
Bethany Wombacker, MS, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Therapist for Mental Health providing therapy at our Monroeville office. Bethany has worked in various mental health settings including hospitals, outpatient facilities, non-profit organizations, home-based settings, shelters, a college campus, and drug and alcohol start-ups. A major focus of her work has been counseling adults dealing with substance use disorder and helping her clients develop coping skills and highly skilled techniques to support recovery. Her areas of experience include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, grief, trauma, life transitions, relationship issues, personal challenges, managing stress, parenting, ADHD, anger management, self-esteem concerns, and work/life balance. Bethany has experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups.
Bethany utilizes several therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Solution Focused, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. Bethany’s approach includes focusing on the unconscious content of an individual’s psyche which promotes identifying the root cause of an individual’s emotional pain. Bethany helps guide self-examination and self-reflection, identifying the problem patterns to help lead to healthier lives.
Education and Experience
Bethany earned bachelor degrees in Human Development and Family Studies and Psychology at Pennsylvania State University, as well as a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from California University of Pennsylvania.
Bethany started her career working with victims of crimes and domestic violence. She created and facilitated the first on campus LGBTQIA+ support group. Bethany has both professional and personal experience working with the LGBT communities and their families.
As her passion to help others grew, so did her opportunities. Bethany provided treatment with a multidisciplinary team including doctors, nurses, nutritionists, social workers, and case managers. Through this experience she has learned to work with other professionals in communities to provide resources beyond the scope of the individual therapy session. Working in non-profit community health environments, Bethany has experience working with many diverse populations. Bethany is highly skilled in meeting a person where they are and building upon their strengths and needs. Bethany has multiple years of working for drug and alcohol providers at every level of care, which includes detox, inpatient, intensive outpatient, and outpatient environments. Bethany has provided drug and alcohol services to individuals, couples, families, and groups.
Hobbies and Interests
Bethany implements self care into her daily life and routines. She enjoys time with friends and family which includes weekly family game night, date night with her husband, playing cards, and having cookouts in the backyard. Bethany supports local business by enjoying live music, art venues, restaurants, and charity events. In her down time she practices mindfulness exercises, sitting around the campfire, and dancing it out in her living room with her children and grandchildren. Bethany and her family love Halloween. Together they create and build a new display every fall. Bethany enjoys random acts of kindness and takes time daily to appreciate the things she is grateful for in the world.
