Melissa McManus, LMFT is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist providing therapy at our Greensburg office. She offers individual, couples and family therapy. She has experience working with all ages and different types of diagnoses from Depression to Schizoaffective Disorder. She also has experiences working with clients having difficulties throughout different stages of life.
Melissa believes that the therapy process begins with the therapeutic relationship. She believes it is the foundation that is necessary to support her clients with accomplishing their therapy goals. Melissa makes it a priority to utilize joining techniques to establish a therapeutic relationship with her clients. She believes it is most effective to approach therapy from a collaborative stance. Melissa works with what her clients can do rather than focusing on what they can’t do.
Melissa makes it a priority to provide space for people through their difficult and most challenging times. She values helping others to recognize their strengths. Melissa provides unconditional positive regard for her clients. She believes that her clients already have the resources and strengths to solve their problems; they just need support with identifying possible solutions that work to achieve the outcome that they desire.
Melissa utilizes techniques from the Solution Focused Therapy model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Structural Family Therapy model.
Mindfulness techniques are a part of Melissa’s approach. She encourages her clients to be in tune with their minds and bodies. Melissa utilizes these techniques when she is supporting her clients with making progress with their goals. She encourages her clients to engage in self care and tries to create a habit of self care in her own personal life.
Education and Experience
Melissa completed her undergraduate degree at Clarion University in 2006 where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Social Work. Melissa went on to complete her graduate education at Seton Hill University in 2008 where she earned her Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Melissa began her career with providing Family Therapy in the homes of families whose children were at risk for being placed out of the home due to their behaviors. This experience provided Melissa with the opportunity to utilize her Systems Theory training and along with her training in Marriage and Family Therapy. As a Family Based in home therapist she was also trained by Western Psych to utilize the Structural Family Therapy model.
Melissa had opportunities to work with numerous resources within the community. She values support systems and believes that everyone needs support. Melissa always encourages her clients to be aware of the support that is available to them and to utilize resources and support systems.
Melissa has worked the past five years at an outpatient therapy facility. She utilized Solution Focused Therapy model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to help her clients feel empowered and accomplish the goals that they wanted to accomplish.
Hobbies and Interests
Melissa enjoys finding happiness in small things on a day to day basis. She enjoys being outside as often as she can. She likes doing yoga and playing tennis in her free time.
