Emily Miller
My name is Emily Miller, LSW, and I am a licensed social worker with expertise in community mental health, child welfare, child and adolescent therapy, family therapy, and couples therapy. I have extensive experience working with children as young as five, adolescents, families, groups, and communities. I offer support and understanding and provide my clients with the skills and tools they need to manage life stressors and challenges. I believe that learning new skills that enhance communication, coping, mindfulness, and grounding are essential for navigating life transitions and improving your window of tolerance.
My primary focus is to meet my clients where they are at, help them identify and utilize their strengths, and ensure they feel respected, understood, and heard. I ensure to provide a safe and empowering environment for all of my clients. I believe that all people are capable of being resilient individuals and have the capacity to bounce back, survive, recover, and even thrive in the face of adversity.
I utilize a variety of evidence-based interventions and I value a holistic approach with clients. I have further training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Play therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Humanistic Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and Somatic Therapy. By using these methods of healing, my primary goal is to help you enhance your skills to facilitate positive change, growth, and deeper connection while also learning to challenge unproductive thoughts and habits.
I have a diverse background in areas such as trauma, child and adolescent counseling, coparenting, couples counseling, domestic violence, foster care and adoption, anxiety, depression, substance use, stress management, anger management, self-esteem, behavioral disorders, grief and loss and more. I view therapy as a safe space where you can be your true self and learn necessary skills to cope with life’s obstacles. With my guidance, I will help you explore your thoughts and feelings, learn self-empowerment, and become the happiest version of you.
Education and Experience
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Slippery Rock University in 2022. I continued on to acquire my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work with a certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in 2023. I became a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in 2024.
I began my career in the education field as a Childcare Teacher in 2018 working with young children, parents, and families. I am passionate about child development, positive phrasing/CARE skills, curriculum development, and safety. Prior to obtaining my Master’s degree, I worked as a Statewide Adoption Network (SWAN) Permanency Facilitator for two years. I provided services to young children, adolescents, and families in the foster care system. My services included Child Preparation, Child Profile, Family Profile, Child Specific Recruitment (CSR), Finalization, and Post- Permanency. All services aimed to provide children, adolescents, and families with support, advocacy, empowerment, and resources. I also worked as a matching recruiter where I helped teenagers and young adolescents residing in Residential Treatment Facilities (RTF) find homes, reunify with family members, and get connected to resources such as Independent Living Services, employment, education, and grants.
Hobbies and Interests
In my leisure time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, binge watching tv shows/movies/documentaries, exercising, going on nature walks/hikes, listening to music and true crime podcasts, and shopping. I am a huge advocate for self-care, health, wellness, and education.
