Rachel Bowser, MS, LPC is a Licensed Professional Counselor and sex therapist. She views the world as a vibrant, exciting, beautiful place that is to be explored. She also believes in standing in solidarity for inclusion, acceptance, equality, freedom, and dignity. Rachel interweaves these beliefs into her therapeutic approach and is passionate about helping others by utilizing inclusion through diversity. With that said, she does not take herself too seriously and thinks therapy can be fun, and laughter can be some of the best medicine.
She has over ten years of experience in the mental health field; has provided a wide array of services from crisis work, integrated care, acute, and recovery services, mostly within the non-profit sector, as well as working in private practice. Working from a mindset of acceptance and inclusion Rachel takes a collaborative holistic approach, utilizing Gestalt framework, person-centered, mindfulness, and strength-based perspectives. Her clinical style when working with you is free of judgement, she asks what has happened to you as opposed to what is wrong with you and helps you recapture a life worth living. She tries to model what it looks to live life with a high positive frequency, believing that what you put out into the world you get back.
Rachel is sex positive therapist, who specializes in sexual health across the life span. She creates a safe space for the LGBTQI+ community and is trans affirming. Rachel also has experience working with individuals in non-traditional relationships, such as consensual non-monogamy and with those who are part of the kink/fetish communities.
Rachel is interested in working with a wide range of individuals from older adolescents, adults, as well as couples. She offers individual, couples, and group therapy by using modalities such as core mindfulness, CBT, DBT, and art therapy. However, Rachel will contend the most important piece of your recovery journey will be the therapeutic bond you develop with her. She hopes you will find her to be a support that uplifts, empowers, and validates you throughout this process. She is confident that together with you she can help create a positive and safe place for you to not only face your challenges, but also move forward and thrive. She has experience assisting individuals who experience difficulties related to depression, low self-worth/image, anxiety, trauma, sexual orientation, gender identity, relationships, and sexual dysfunction to become more resilient than they already are.
Rachel received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University in 2007, and completed her undergraduate degree from Seton Hill University with a concentration in Art Therapy. She has advanced training in Sex Therapy through the University of Michigan Sexual Health Certificate Program. Prior to entering the private practice world, her background was in working in the non-profit sector with a primary focus in acute care, crisis work, and psych rehab.
In her personal time you can find Rachel visiting the beach, camping, kayaking, attending concerts, and ringing her cowbell at Pittsburgh Penguins games. Rachel enjoys these activities with her daughters, large extended family, and friends. Rachel as many hobbies and interests, including urban bee keeping, she is also an avid traveler and loves trying new cuisine, as she holds a belief that it is important to spend time experiencing people, perspectives, and cultures that are different from her own.
