Kate Anderson, MA, LPC, NCC, CCTC is a Certified Clinical Trauma professional who has worked to help others find healing as a part of the Mental Health field since 2005. Kate offers individual, couples, and family therapy in Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh’s Monroeville location. Kate has worked with a wide range of clients who span the lifespan including adolescents and adults, she has provided effective counseling care in both individual and group settings. Kate brings an array of specialties to Counseling and Wellness Center East, in working with individuals who struggle with addiction, trauma, grief & loss, chronic pain, LGBTQIA issues, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and other major mental health diagnoses.
As a passionate mental health advocate, Kate will help you, as the client, create behavioral change as well as address the societal and cultural causes and solutions that are commonly faced in the counseling process. Kate works to emphasize your wellness, mental, psychological, physical, and relational wellness. She will help you by endeavoring to build a welcoming, safe space to empower individual clients in creating positive change. Kate understands that by focusing on a internal strengths, accepting and validating a client’s experience, and resolving to create a dynamic new behavioral repertoire that emotional healing will occur. Kate uses tools and techniques such as role-playing, and assertiveness training to help clients build their identity and self-esteem to the degree that they can embrace their own personal power. Kate is dedicated to using evidence-based practices such as CBT or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and will be pursuing training & certification in eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. EMDR one of the most researched and utilized methods in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other forms of distress connected to adverse life experiences.
Kate earned her Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Studies as well as a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In her personal time she enjoys relaxing with her husband and her four fun-loving dogs. She enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time in the outdoors. Kate is a strong advocate for self-care and therefore prioritizes practices such as meditation and breath-work to achieve a healthy state of mind and overall well-being.
