
Brooke Rawls, Ph.D., LCSW, licensed clinical social worker, is a compassionate and caring therapist who provides individual and couples therapy at our Monroeville Counseling Center. Dr. Rawls is dedicated to helping individuals heal or alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, caregiver fatigue, or any difficult life adjustment. Dr. Rawls utilizes the bio-psycho-social-spiritual approach to therapy, assuring that all aspects of a person’s life are built into their treatment plan. She creates a safe and non-judgmental space for adults and couples to explore their thoughts, feelings, and hopes for their life.
Dr. Rawls specializes in working with individuals struggling from adverse pregnancy outcomes and maternal mental health. These outcomes can include traumatic birth, miscarriage, stillbirth, early infant loss, and infertility. Women who have suffered perinatal loss are at risk for developing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. Dr. Rawls understands the grief and trauma associated with pregnancy and infant loss. She recognizes that the family will grieve not only for the loss of their child but also for the loss of their child’s future. Dr. Rawls utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness meditation, solution-focused therapy, and person-centered therapy to guide couples and families through their trauma. The therapeutic techniques offered by Dr. Rawls provides the skills and strategies to assist individuals in better understanding, coping with, processing emotions and memories tied to their traumatic experience.
Dr. Rawls brings with her more than nine years of experience within the field of social work. In 2010, Dr. Rawls graduated from Slippery Rock University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus on Social Work. She later went on to receive her Master of Social Work (MSW) from California University of Pennsylvania in 2014, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. In May of 2019, Dr. Rawls graduated from Robert Morris University with a Ph.D. in Instructional Management and Leadership. Her dissertation focused on the impact of secondary traumatic stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue on bereavement doulas.
A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Rawls, is the Vice-President a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive support services to low-income and/or at-risk families before, during, and after any pregnancy experience. Through this community leadership role, she has explored the impact of pregnancy loss on women and the lack of support services available to them. To bring awareness to this phenomenon, Dr. Rawls published an article titled “What do we do with the specimen? A reflection of miscarriages in the emergency department.” This article appeared in the 2018 winter edition of the Midwifery Today Journal.
When not at work, Dr. Rawls volunteers for the Gateway Midget Football and Cheerleading Association, where she currently serves as the Vice-President of Cheer. She enjoys traveling, reading, going to the movies, and spending time with her friends and family.
