Monica Kaule, MS, LPC, EMDR, CMHIMP embraces evidence-based and holistic approaches to helping her clients achieve optimal health and wellness. Leading with the philosophy that ‘problem talk creates problems, solution talk creates solutions’, you can expect a Solution-Focused approach to counseling. Solution-focused theory believes personal change is already constant. When working with Monica, she will guide you to recognize changes that are currently in progress and identify positive directions for continuous change. The goal is to help clients construct a concrete vision of their preferred future.
Having a passion for mental health and beyond, Monica is also a certified Mental Health Integrative Medicine practitioner (CMHIMP) and a wellness coach. CAM therapies believe practices such as acupuncture, yoga, meditation and guided imagery support health and healing. As a certified practitioner of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Monica uses these skills to help individuals work through identified therapeutic targets, such as memories or feelings. With the combination of her therapies Monica focuses on the present while allowing past experiences to be a framework for strength and recovery. Monica finds her work fulfilling as she is able to help people overcome their past struggles so that they can enjoy a more peaceful present and future.
Monica’s current therapeutic focus is working with individuals who have experienced substance abuse issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and incarceration experiences. She has previous experience working with children with behavioral issues and children on the autism spectrum. Monica welcomes individuals, families, and couples into her practice. As an avid academic, Monica earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University and her Master’s of Science in Community Counseling from Mount Aloysius College. She is currently a PhD candidate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she also teaches other counselors earning Master’s degrees. Also interested in research, Monica’s current study is on professional identity development of counselors and counselor educators. The goal of her research is to help counselors become more competent and confident.
Residing in Pittsburgh with her husband and two beautiful and playful dogs, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Monica practices her own well-being through exercise and spending time in nature. On the weekends you can often find her checking out a new restaurant, entertaining friends around a campfire, or partaking in a game night.
