Rachael Jerome
Rachael Jerome, MA, BSL is a licensed behavioral therapist who has worked in various different therapeutic backgrounds such as providing therapy to individuals within the correctional system and providing behavioral consultant work with families and children. Rachael is very passionate about providing individuals, couples, and families with empathetic support and coping strategies needed to manage everyday stressors related to career, relationships, and other areas of tension. Her goal is to work collaboratively with clients and families to provide compassionate, professional services in order to assist the client(s) to reach their full potential.
Rachael bases her therapeutic approach on establishing rapport and trust with the client from the beginning so that she can meet the client with where they are in their current stage in life. Reaching out for mental health assistance takes a lot of personal strength and courage and Rachael hopes to provide her clients with a feeling of acceptance so that the individual feels ready for change and supported throughout the process. Rachael takes a holistic approach with individuals to ensure the client is getting the support and tools needed to meet the client’s goals. She engages her clients and families with an empathetic perspective so that no one feels they are to be blamed or judged, but instead feel accepted and empowered to tackle whatever obstacle the client is experiencing, or has experienced. Rachael strives to help the client feel they are an equal in the therapeutic relationship so that they can take an active direction in their own care.
Education & Experience
Rachael’s education began at The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown where she graduated with a bachelor of science in Psychology with a focus on criminal justice. Rachael is a member of the Psi Chi Honor Society and has research work published due to her assistance with Dr. John Mullennix’s analysis of preferences toward visual art during her undergraduate career. Rachael continued her education in Chicago at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where she received a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology. Rachael completed her thesis focusing on Erik Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development and believes that many of our current life problems stem from personality changes that occurred during different portions of our lives and have been reinforced overtime; she further believes that corrective experiences—or the re-experiencing of emotional situations under more favorable conditions—have the power to help change these feelings of inadequacy to guide the individual into self-realization.
Rachael earned her Behavioral Specialist License with the state of Pennsylvania in March 2023. She has experience working in many different treatment settings as a therapist, such as working with children of all ages and their families within their homes or school to assist with behavioral problems, while also working with individuals within a correctional facility to provide empathetic support when exploring mindset issues, potential mental health concerns, and emotional difficulties that may lead to re-incarceration. Rachael has experience working closely with family dynamics, including helping parents develop new behavioral and communicative skills to deescalate crisis situations in order to help strengthen family relationships and bonds.
