Maddie Larson (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with diverse experience in the Mental Health field. She uses a variety of evidenced based counseling techniques in order to meet the needs of her clients, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Structural Family Therapy when working with families. She utilizes a holistic approach to counseling focused on meeting clients where they are and addressing their specific concerns. Maddie enjoys integrating mindfulness, relaxation, and stress management into treatment sessions. She has experience counseling clients with depression, mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD from various types of trauma, ADHD, anger issues, stress management issues, relationship concerns, and body image and self-esteem issues.
Maddie believes that clients are experts on their own experience and she is committed to a collaborative approach in order to provide the most effective treatment. She also focuses on empowering client’s to be their best selves and advocate for their needs. Maddie is a strong LGBTQ+ ally and is very knowledgeable about issues relevant to the community.
Education & Experience
Maddie earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies and minor in Psychology from Penn State University. She then earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. Her experience began as a social worker in the healthcare system connecting people to appropriate resources. She then worked as a Mental Health Therapist counseling adjudicated youth and their families.
Maddie has experience working with teens, adults, and families. She has been trained in treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, which includes Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She also stays up to date on evidence based treatment and regularly attends relevant training in the field to better serve her clients.
Maddie recently completed a rigorous training program to become a Certified First Responder Counselor, enhancing her understanding of the law enforcement and first responder community, as well as the unique counseling and mental health needs of these individuals and their families.
This specialized training has further refined her skills as a licensed therapist, providing her with additional tools to effectively reach and support first responders with cultural competence, expertise, confidence, and empathy, enabling her to better assist responders, victims, and their families who have experienced trauma.
Hobbies & Interests
When Maddie is not working, she is spending time with family, friends, or her cat Syd. She enjoys spending time in nature, trying new restaurants, and watching movies.
