Education & Experience
Amy holds a B.A. in Psychology from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY, and M.A. in Professional Psychology, from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, PA. Amy also completed post-graduate work at Duquesne University in school guidance counseling.
Amy has applied her knowledge and skills to serve individuals and organizations for more than thirty years. She began counseling in the 1990s, working in private practice, inpatient, and outpatient settings. Amy enjoys the process of adapting her approach to fit each specific situation. She often engages in cognitive-behavioral therapy to help clients recognize how thoughts and beliefs influence choices. Where there are distortions, she collaborates with each client to identify their origins, challenge any false interpretations, and adopt more positive, objective messages. Her primary focus areas include trauma and victimization; low self-esteem; depression and anxiety; self-discovery; faith based marriage counseling and /relationship issues; interpersonal communication; conflict resolution; female sexuality; and grief work.
In addition to her counseling, Amy has extensive experience working in leadership roles within various non-profit organizations. She managed three teams in a hospice setting and grew to understand how to assist individuals and families in effectively navigating the complex world of chronic illnesses, death, and dying. Amy held executive leadership positions in two organizations, including Vice-President of Organizational Development and Chief Operating Officer. She was responsible for overseeing operations, programs, human resources, staff development, and training in those roles. Understanding organizational structures, leadership styles, and the importance of how different personalities function within the workplace allows her to contribute significantly to problem-solving, team building, and organizational growth.
Amy enjoys speaking, training, and teaching. She appreciates the concept of being a life-long learner and values sharing information with others to facilitate gaining insight and promoting growth. Amy always enjoys leading discussions centered on keeping our lives running well in all areas—relational, vocational, sexual, spiritual, recreational, and physical.
She has been an adjunct faculty member for Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania and Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Amy has presented in various settings—organizations, churches, and workshops for national conferences. Subject matter includes but is not limited to—understanding depression, choosing wisely in relationships, dealing with difficult people, communication, and conflict resolution.
Amy also published multiple articles and several self-published books, some of which she wrote with her husband.
