Bethany (Tinstman) Dimick
PCIT Therapy
Bethany (Tinstman) Dimick, M.ED., LPC, LBS, NCC, is a licensed professional counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors. Bethany offers individual counseling for children, adolescents, and adults, with specialties in Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, and Autism with children and youth. Bethany is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Parent Child Interaction Therapy, PCIT Therapy.
Bethany also has experience in guided meditation, mindfulness, and stress reduction techniques. Bethany’s counseling philosophy and treatment approach are Person-Centered in nature, rooted in the belief that the therapist and client are equal partners rather than an expert treating a patient. Bethany’s approach focuses on the notion that the client is responsible for improving their life, and the therapist will listen and encourage them on an equal level.
Therapy with Bethany begins with a thorough intake assessment. This part of the counseling process aims to gain an understanding of the individual and their support systems, to assess their internal personal strengths, and what external allies they have for support. Bethany believes that it is important to meet individuals where they are and utilize a collaborative approach. Using these strengths, Bethany will then create a treatment plan which will outline the areas for change that the individual finds important.
Education and Experience
Bethany is a graduate of Waynesburg University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and of California University of Pennsylvania, where she received her Master of Education degree in School Counseling. After graduating, Bethany earned her NCC and LPC, becoming a nationally certified counselor and licensed professional counselor.
Bethany has experience working in a variety of levels of care, including mental health and behavior therapy in home, school, and community settings for children and adolescents with significant mood or behavioral difficulties and trauma-related disorders. These therapies included both individual and family support. Bethany also worked as a group therapist for individuals with Autism (ages 5-21) that needed social skills supports. After earning her master’s degree, she continued to develop her skills through her transition to an outpatient therapy office setting, for community mental health, where she had the opportunity to work with clients experiencing a wide variety of concerns, including trauma, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, struggles with positive coping strategies, OCD, ADHD, autism, behavioral challenges, and stress management. During this time, Bethany also became trained in PCIT Therapy, working with caregivers and their children to strengthen their relationship and address behavioral concerns. Bethany has also furthered her understanding of the importance of mental health supports through the COVID 19 pandemic and has supported clients and their families by providing emotional support and resources during the difficult times that the pandemic presented.
Hobbies and Interests
Bethany believes in the importance of caring for oneself physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually, in order to fully care for one’s well-being. When Bethany is not working, she enjoys going on walks with her husband and playing with her two cats. Bethany also enjoys watching movies, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family, especially her niece. She also engages in daily mindfulness meditations, recognizing that breathing and mindfulness are an important pathway to emotional health and enhanced well-being.
