Alyce “Allie” Miele, MSW, LSW will be offering therapy in our Pittsburgh Counseling Center. Alyce is will be applying her proven track record of helping clients recover from a variety of mental health related issues and along with her unique mental health skills set she is also relatable, genuine, and kind. Alyce moved from a small country town outside of Greensburg to attend Chatham University for her BA in Psychology, where she completed a thesis based on empathy and animals. While attending college she worked at UPMC on the Center for Overcoming Problem Eating, or COPE, unit. Afterwards, she worked with individuals and families with special health care needs to develop treatment plans for at home care. Alyce went on to work at Pittsburgh Mercy for their crisis unit, using her empathy and care to assist patients in great need of mental health interventions. She worked full time and attended the University of Pittsburgh full time where she graduated with a Masters in Social Work and a certificate in Mental Health.
Alyce is trained in Trauma informed care, short term therapeutic techniques, interpersonal therapy or IPT, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. She views therapy through a non-judgemental, come as you are not who you should be, lens. Alyce has experience working with individuals who have had acute mental health care needs, as well as individuals who are experiencing a life altering health care diagnosis, additionally Alyce has worked with individuals to help them process grief, trauma, and short term stressors of everyday life.
Some of Alyce’s most meaningful work has been during her time as an oncology social worker. She was able to work with families, children, adolescents, and older adults to “be there” with them during their most painful times of life. She has worked with many different populations, and is culturally competent to work with individuals from all communities. Alyce has also worked with the LGBTQI community, and sexual abuse survivors.
Currently Alyce is happily working at Community Care Behavioral Health Origination where she is a precertification care manager. She utilizes her analytical and clinical skills to assist UPMC and CCBHO members, providers, and her teammates. She also practices crisis intervention and motivational interviewing with members. Alyce is currently working on her LCSW. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, partner, and their pug Pumpkin. She also enjoys bad reality tv, reading crime and suspense books, and target runs. She also loves to cook and grow plants.
