Sandee is a psychotherapist who provides in person and telehealth counseling at the South Hills office. Sandee has been licensed in the state of Pennsylvania since 2017. Sandee attended undergraduate school at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. She graduated from CALU in 2014 with a MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Sandee’s therapy experience began as a counselor in a Children’s Partial Program in Uniontown, PA. She then moved on to counseling at a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program in Morgantown, WV. This started of her extensive experience in drug and alcohol counseling. Sandee led Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Program groups specifically with substance use disorders.
Sandee has experience treating clients in individual therapy who live with panic attacks, anxiety, depression, grief, autism, PTSD and relationship issues. Sandee has worked with clients on Drug Court, Mental Health Court, DUI Court and has helped several clients move forward from the judicial system. Sandee works with clients ages 16+ from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs. She has extensive training with the LGBT+ community and trauma informed care.
Sandee utilizes a strengths based approach in sessions and utilizes evidence based therapies; Sandee has been trained in a multitude of intervention approaches, including Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Informed Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused therapies. Sandee finds a holistic approach to be beneficial in therapy as the whole person needs to be addressed to improve behavioral outcomes and relationships. Sandee often uses a sense of humor in her sessions and finds easy ways to connect with her clients using a candid straight forward approach. Sandee approaches psychotherapy in a supportive and interpersonal manner. She utilizes an eclectic style, incorporating humanistic, existential, and cognitive-behavioral theories into the practice of helping clients develop solutions to problems. She facilitates an open and productive dialogue, set on talking through symptoms and towards solutions. Sandee’s specialties include helping people heal from depression and anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, anger management problems, relationship challenges, and sleep issues. Regardless of the the presenting problems, Sandee is attentive and adaptive to the needs of her clients.
Sandee uses a client centered and Adlerian approach to counseling. She believes that your past often plays a part in your current and future life. Sandee caters her counseling approach to what the client needs at that time believing that the client “will take you where they need to go”. One approach does not fit all clients. It is common for Sandee to challenge her client’s current way of thinking and motivate them towards change in their life.
When Sandee is not at work you can find her at home taking care of her several house plants, playing outside in the yard, knitting or spending time with her wife and dog. Sandee enjoys traveling to Ohio to see family and working on house improvement projects. Sandee is also an artist and makes ceramics and paintings. One of her favorite artists is Frida Kahlo.
