
Heather Bowser, MS.Ed., LPC, NCC is a relatable, kind, and empathetic therapist who is providing telehealth Pennsylvania online counseling services. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor. Heather grew up in central Pennsylvania and completed her undergraduate coursework at The Pennsylvania State University. She moved to Pittsburgh and enrolled at Duquesne University and earned her MS.Ed. in community counseling.
Heather has over 17 years of counseling experience and has worked for various programs in Pittsburgh that offer treatment for substance use disorders and dual diagnosis treatment. She worked at an all-female program and is skilled in working with women on issues surrounding self-esteem, substance use, and breaking through patterns of unhealthy relationships. In addition to her work in Pittsburgh, Heather lived in middle Georgia for 7 years and worked as an integral part of an interdisciplinary palliative care team in a large hospital. Heather practiced therapeutic skills with grieving families, individuals, and assisted with case management. She counseled patients and their family members as they worked through their understanding of acute and chronic illnesses.
Heather’s theoretical approach to counseling includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Impact Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused. Most recently, Heather has been helping couples to enhance their relationship by utilizing the teachings she has been provided by taking Gottman Method Couples Therapy trainings to expand her repertoire. Heather has experience counseling adults in areas that consist of self-care, work/life balance, substance use issues, anger management, care giver strain, acute & chronic illness, bereavement, complicated grief, anticipatory grief, and end of life issues. She recognizes that many of these topics are often uncomfortable to discuss and does so with compassion and respect. We will all be facing difficult conversations regarding our own health or the health of a loved one at some point in our lives. Talking through ways to deal with these conversations are particularly important.
Heather finds providing counseling services to clients a privilege. When not working, Heather likes to engage in self-care activities that consist of traveling, cooking, baking, spending time with family and friends, or being outside on various nature trails with her two rescued dogs.
