John-Paul Dombrowski is a passionate therapist that integrates a wealth of life experience and therapeutic knowledge in order to help individuals live meaningful and healthy lives. He is enthusiastic about psychology and enjoys creatively collaborating with clients in order to facilitate personalized growth and wellness. John-Paul’s counseling is founded on honoring the uniqueness of each person. With this in mind, each session is an opportunity to become more authentic, more personal, and more fully human. As a masters degree intern, John Paul Dombrowski offers low cost counseling services on the sliding scale.
In therapy, the focus is on revealing and building personal strengths to empower individuals or families to make constructive changes in their lives. John-Paul aims to provide a safe environment to help all clients explore and bring out their potential. John-Paul embraces the cognitive model of change and has had extensive coursework in CBT. The humanistic therapeutic perspective roots the human person in uniqueness, individuality, and unexplainable value. Embracing a holistic appreciation for each person and adapting the cognitive model to each individual’s needs, provides both a dignified understanding of the person as well as an evidence-based model for change in therapy.
John-Paul is a native of Steubenville, Ohio. He attained his Bachelor of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He is currently finalizing coursework to obtain his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the same university with a concentration in Crisis and Trauma Counseling. Throughout John-Paul’s career he has expressed his passion for the helping profession through a history of dedicated volunteer experience, leadership, and peer mentorship.
John-Paul welcomes all clients. He is especially passionate about aiding young adults and adolescents in identity formation and working through issues of self-esteem. He has a fervent appreciation for the family and is committed to counseling families, couples, and individuals of all backgrounds and cultures. John-Paul is equipped to treat depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, issues of self-worth, communication issues, marital issues and many other psychological and relational difficulties.
The balance of exercising the mind and the body is an essential aspect of John-Paul’s life. This balance is the foundation of John-Paul’s wellness and provides him with a deep sense of interior peace and an opportunity for ongoing self-mastery. As an adventurer at heart, John-Paul deeply enjoys all things outdoors. Daily mindfulness meditation is an important part of his daily wellness routine, and personal spiritual practice roots him in an understanding of self. He enjoys hiking, rock climbing, and camping with his friends and family. John-Paul also thoroughly enjoys competition and plays both basketball and sand volleyball regularly. He relaxes by barbecuing in his back yard, smoking cigars, reading books and listening to podcasts.
