Every human being experiences some sort of trauma in life. Hannah Colbert (she) is a clinical therapist providing low cost therapy in our Canonsburg Counseling Center. They work as a therapist to help individuals and families find healing in the therapeutic process. Their clients range from children and families to individuals/adults. They have worked with individuals experiencing crisis situations as well as individuals who just feel they need someone to talk to without judgement. The main goal in therapy is to help clients feel safe and whole as well as find confidence in their own abilities and gain insight to help them work through anything that may come their way.
As your therapist, it’s important to recognize that no single approach works for every client. Their therapeutic skills have a wide range and their main treatment modalities are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused-Counseling. They look for client feedback and focus to provide the best therapeutic process based on the individuals strengths and goals. They encourage open communication with different therapy techniques recommended throughout the treatment process and focus to find what works and benefits each specific client and their needs. When working specifically with children, they understand the importance of ensuring that not only are they making the therapeutic process comfortable but engaging for each child, through play and art therapy.
They have diverse education and experience that includes a Master and Bachelor degree in Social Work from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. Immediately after graduating with their Bachelor degree they began working with children and families as a case manager with children in the foster care system. Upon graduation with their Master degree they have now been working for several years as a therapist, mainly working with children and families. They are passionate about working with children and families as well as individuals dealing with substance use as well as anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. They have worked with drug and alcohol dependence in a residential treatment facility where they provided support and counseling to adults in an individual and group setting. They have also worked In the community based setting where they saw individuals and families within the comfort of their home or a public setting. During this time, they worked with clients with a broad range of mood disorders, as well as anxiety, depression, and substance use. They have worked with individuals within the court system In which services were mandated as still as individuals who sought out therapy services. They have experience working with individuals who have experienced domestic violence situations, where they helped the individual build back their self esteem and self worth. In their practice they work on building confidence, using mindfulness techniques, building self worth, and most importantly doing ego work. The key component for success in a therapeutic relationship is mutual respect and honesty. This overlaps in their personal life and practice as they strive to do all things with patience, love, and understanding as we are all human beings searching to heal our wounds and childhood traumas.
