Kionna Howell (she/her) is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 10 years of experience.
As an LPC, Kionna’s passion is to help her clients reach their full potential by decreasing stress and increasing peace. Her firm belief is that the client is the expert of their own life and feels it is important to integrate their own wants and needs in their mental health therapy. She understands what it is like to not see the light at the end of the tunnel and is passionate about being a support to help motivate and uplift her clients. Kionna’s goal is provide her clients with the tools and techniques to reach their full potential—empowering them to ultimately take full ownership of their mental health journey.
Kionna has several counseling styles to fit her client’s specific needs: cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing, and structural family therapy for families. She has a structured and research-oriented approach with an emphasis on understanding patterns and monitoring progress. Kionna obtained her 200-Hour Yoga Teacher certificate at My Vinyasa Practice in January 2021. She enjoys integrating yoga, relaxation, and mindfulness techniques with her clients. She has use yoga and mental health therapy to help many clients that suffered from:

Kionna’s client include children, adolescents, families and adults. She has extensive training in treating childhood trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which includes Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is an evidence-based modality. She has also utilized her trauma trainings to help Human Trafficking Survivors.
Kionna’s experience in the mental health field started as a direct care worker and eventually a supervisor at Southwood Psychiatric Hospital. There, she found her passion for mental health and enjoyed helping the youth at Southwood. This experience inspired her to attain her Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University. Graduating with a 4.0 GPA, Kionna began her role as a Mental Health Therapist at the Academy schools. Her focus was working with court adjudicated youth and their families.
In order to better serve her clients, Kionna is committed to lifelong learning and staying up-to-date on the latest research. She continues to read articles, books, and attend relevant trainings. Kionna’s credentials spans a breadth of topics and research including: Three-day trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy training with Dr. Anthony Mannarino. Advance post-graduate training in drug and alcohol techniques and treatments with Ken Montrose from the Greenbrier Center. Three-day training with the Traumatic Stress Institute, and LBGTQ+ Training with Ted Hoover from the Persad Center.
When Kionna is not working, she utilizes the skills and tools she has acquired through her career to live her fullest life. She enjoys taking walks, doing yoga, reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.
