In 2015, Heidi graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s Degree in Rehabilitative Sciences with a concentration in addictions and a minor in psychology. She started her career working in group homes with fostered youth as a youth counselor. From that position, she became a mental health counselor at Bradford Regional Medical Center while she completed her Master’s. There, she worked on an inpatient psychiatric unit and an inpatient dual diagnosis unit. During her time at the inpatient psychiatric unit, she was able to learn and develop a strong understanding of how to assist someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis. While on the dual diagnosis inpatient unit, Heidi gained experience in addressing how addiction and mental health can both exist for an individual. She was able to develop an understanding of how one’s mental health can lead to addiction and addiction can create mental health symptoms. She moved to Pittsburgh in 2019 to take a new position as an intensive outpatient drug and alcohol counselor, focusing treatment on recovering from addiction. There, she was able to define her skills as a counselor while she was engaged with supervision to obtain her professional license. Currently, Heidi assists in providing assessments for individuals who are seeking inpatient treatment for substance use disorders.
Heidi looks forward to transitioning to private practice to continue her career goals, as well as work with client’s long term.
