Caroline Fuller, M Ed, LPC, NCC is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor currently accepting clients in the Counseling and Wellness Center’s Wexford office. Caroline’s areas of specialty include both individual and couples counseling. Some of the diagnoses and situations which she has helped people overcome are: relationship issues, life transitions, adjustment disorders, career change, college selection, terminal illness, goal setting, infertility, pregnancy loss, grief/loss, trauma, substance use disorders/dual diagnosis, anxiety, depression
Caroline provides an honest, supportive, non-judgmental place to explore clients’ goals, needs, feelings and perceptions. She is educated in trauma-informed care and interacts with her clients from this perspective. She sees individuals and couples of all ages, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds.
Caroline is also a Certified Gestalt Therapist and practices therapy from this theoretical orientation. Gestalt focuses on the therapeutic relationship and the co-created space in session. Clients explore their perceptions and the ways they move through their experiences. The therapist views the client as a whole person with many parts and the ability to adapt to varied circumstances as a self-regulating organism. Caroline believes that all behavior is purposeful. She utilizes techniques and experiments to help her clients gain awareness of their sensations and feelings as they come into contact with them in the present moment. This process highlights empowerment through choice, facilitates personal growth, and supports clients in breaking free from fixed patterns. She enjoys helping clients make discoveries and accomplish their goals to achieve greater happiness and satisfaction in their lives.
Caroline integrates aspects of Reality Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy into her practice. Reality Therapy centers on clients’ needs and how they are or are not meeting them as well as concrete, practical solutions. This therapy is useful for clients who are trying to manage their stress levels or to achieve balance and reduce ADHD or depressive symptoms. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy examines thought processes – altering cognitive distortions and negative thinking to positively influence feelings and behaviors. Clients seeking relief from mood disorders such as bipolar, depression, and anxiety often benefit from these cognitive interventions.
For several years, Caroline has worked with individuals, couples, and families in both school and community outpatient settings. She has met with families in their homes as a Mobile Therapist, Behavior Specialist, and Family-Based Therapist. In these positions, she worked with families to extinguish problematic behaviors, establish healthy boundaries and repair relationships between siblings, couples, parents & children. She has helped children as young as five and as old as seventeen in school settings to gain social skills, learn ways to self-support, and take steps toward positive change. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities, she has encouraged adolescents and adults to conquer their addictions and live healthy, fulfilling lives. Through clinic experience, Caroline has worked with young, middle-aged, and elderly adults to combat their mental health issues, enhance communication in their relationships, and regulate their emotions. She has helped clients face the heartbreak of failed marriages, manage the pain of infertility, process intense grief due to the death of a loved one, and heal from past trauma and abuse.
Caroline truly loves being a therapist. When she is not working, she revels in learning new things and traveling to the west coast. She also enjoys canoeing on peaceful lakes, hiking in the forest, sitting by the campfire, and swimming in the ocean.
