
Edvina May is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been providing therapeutic services for over 10 years to various populations. Edvina began her career with providing chChild Therapy and graduated to working with teenagers, adults, couples, and families. Edvina has worked on providing individual and group therapy to adjudicated youth. While doing so, Edvina worked alongside a psychiatrist learning how to diagnose and offer treatment to patients according to the DSM-V. Edvina completed her undergraduate degree at Duquesne University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with a minor in English and French. Edvina went on to complete her graduate education at Chatham University where she earned her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. At Chatham University, Edvina participated in doing research focused on gender norms, self-esteem in adolescent girls, and leadership development of fraternity men which led to a contribution to a book chapter in Lifestyle Medicine.
Due to a humanistic background in education at Duquesne University, Edvina believes in unconditional positive regard of her patients as posited by Carl Rogers. By meeting her patients where they are in their lives, whether working with children, adults, or couples, Edvina is able to build trust and rapport. Through trust, she is able to make progress with her patients towards their therapeutic goals. Edvina uses evidence based treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She is currently working on completing her training for Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral therapy in addressing trauma in children while working with their families. Edvina has worked in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health diagnoses ranging from Adjustment Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder to Schizophrenia. She is also trained in providing assessment for bariatric surgery.
Edvina was born in Prijedor, Bosnia, and spent the first ten years of her life there before coming to live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She speaks Bosnian and various dialects of the Bosnian language. She loves to spend time with her husband,two children, two cats, and a dog. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her family, exercising, gardening, reading, and traveling. Edvina will be working at Counseling and Wellness Center’s of Pittsburgh’s Greensburg location. She will be available for both teletherapy and in person sessions.
