Ellen Gong
Hello! My name is Ellen Gong, MS, NCC. As an Asian therapist, I am especially passionate about helping minority groups and individuals navigate the challenges of acculturation, identity exploration, and living in a new culture. I understand the unique experiences that come with different cultural backgrounds and how systemic barriers, cultural norms, and societal expectations can impact mental health. My work is grounded in cultural competency and sensitivity, ensuring that you feel seen, respected, supported, understood and valued in your unique experiences and perspectives.
Taking the step to seek therapy is a powerful act of self-care and bravery, and I want to honor the courage it takes to reach out for support. Whether you’re navigating a mental health diagnosis, dealing with relationship challenges, or feeling overwhelmed by life’s transitions, I am here to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences, find validation, and begin your journey toward healing and growth.
I work with individuals, couples of all configurations, co-parents, families, groups, domestic violence survivors, LGBTQIA+ individuals, BIPOC clients, narcissistic abuse survivors, veterans, and those facing palliative care challenges. I’m passionate about treating individuals with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, OCD, depression, complex PTSD, bipolar disorders, borderline personality disorder, panic disorder, caregiver fatigue, burnout, and challenges related to career transitions. I recognize that these diagnoses can often feel overwhelming or isolating, and my approach normalizes the emotional and psychological responses clients experience, framing them as a part of the human condition rather than a personal failure.
My therapeutic approach draws from evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Gottman Method for couples, existential therapy, and Gestalt therapy. I believe in meeting you where you are and helping you explore your feelings.
These tools allow me to tailor treatment to your specific needs and goals, addressing emotional regulation, relationship dynamics, and the search for meaning in your life. My goal is to empower you with skills, insights, and the confidence to lead a more authentic and fulfilling life.
Education and Experience
My academic and professional journey has been shaped by a dedication to understanding both the art and science of counseling. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and have extensive experience working with diverse populations in community-based and clinical settings. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the complexities of mental health and equipped me to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to clients from all walks of life.
Counseling Intern
As a counseling intern at the Counseling and Wellness Center of Pittsburgh, Ellen benefits from mentorship and the guidance of an experienced team of therapists, ensuring you receive exceptional support. All of our interns offer Sliding Scale Therapy, giving you access to quality care while they continue to refine their skills under the guidance of seasoned professionals.
Hobbies and Activities
Outside of work, I enjoy activities that help me stay grounded and connected to the world around me. I’m an avid reader and am passionate about exploring topics related to cultural psychology, mindfulness, and relational dynamics. I also enjoy hiking, trying new recipes, and spending time with loved ones, which helps me recharge and bring my best self to my practice.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your journey, I would be honored to walk alongside you. Together, we can build a path toward healing and personal growth that reflects your resilience, values, and aspirations.
